ABOUT MATT
Matt has been married to his high school sweetheart Joye (Dubach)for 40 years and they are the parents of three daughters and the grandparents to three grandsons. Matt and Joye reside in Berne
Education
Matt graduated from South Adams High School in 1981 and Vincennes University with an Associates in Science in Aviation Technology in May 1984. Matts career has been in the indurance work as is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
Career
Matts work ethic was honed with his first job of pumping gas at the local Shell Station and having a early morning paper route.
After graduation from college and marriage Matt worked in the tool and die industry before selling cars for the local Ford dealer and finally joining Bixler Insurance Inc in 1991.
Matt became a part owner in the agency in 1994 and in 2024 became the President of Bixler Insurnance Inc. Bixler Insurance has 4 locations in Adams, Jay and Allen counties. Matt is a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana and Independent Insurance and Brokers of America. Currently Matt concentrates on operations and commercial and agri-business insurance.
Political Experience
Matt began his public service in 1994 when he was elected to the Adams County Council serving as President of the Council from 2000 to 2008. In 2008 he was elected to the Indiana General Assembly representing the 79th district.

Matt currently serves as the House Majority Floor Leader and serves on the Legislative Council, the House Insurance Committee the Public Policy Committee, and the Commerce and Small Business Committee.
Matt has taken his expertise in Insurance to the national level serving as a two term President of NCOIL – National Council of Insurance Legislators. NCOIL is the national leader in creating model laws for the various states throughout the United States.
Faith
Matt grew up in a strong Chirstian home and believes that a strong faith is the cornerstone to family, your business and how you serve the public. Matt and Joye are both active at the Berne Evangelical Church where they teach Sunday School and serve on several committees.
Community Service
Matt has been active in his home commuintiy where he is a member of Rotary International and serves and has serverd on many boards and commissions.
